About Us

The Color Curtain Processing Project was funded through a grant from the Council on Library and Information Resources (CLIR). The project set out to process over 10,000 linear feet of BMRC members primary resource collections related to African American history and create EAD finding aids. At the conclusion of the project, over 130 collections were fully processed.  Through this award, the BMRC expanded the intellectual control and arrangement of unprocessed collections discovered during our Andrew W. Mellon funded three-year (2009-2011) BMRC Survey Initiative. Beyond arranging and cataloging primary resources related to Chicago’s African American heritage, the project also acted as a comprehensive recruitment tool for undergraduates seeking careet in the archival profession.
